Symptoms :  There are no definite symptoms to diagnose hysteria. Its main symptom, however, is an attack of unconsciousness or fainting. It can last from 24 to 48 hours. Some people have frequent and repeated attacks. During the attack, the patient becomes senseless. Greater attention should be paid during an attack to the mental and nervous symptoms shown by the patient. Women are more prone to this disease.

Causes : Usually such young women who know that there are sympathetic people around who will take care of them are prone to this disease. Fruits should from a major part of the meals. The patient should read good literature. It is more beneficial to take honey than sugar in milk. From the point of view of treatment, as soon as the patient experiences an attack, make him lie down in a comfortable position and sprinkle cool water on his face. At this time, make him smell things with a sharp smell and rub such things around his nose.

The above mentioned treatment is instantaneous but the lasting cure can be provide only by tackling the mental problems which have caused the disease. For this, it is necessary to establish a close rapport with the patient at the mental level and tackle him affectionately looking into his problems and solving them. This is the only effective treatment. If the root –cause of anxiety is removed, the disease will automatically  disappear. Often the severity of the disease diminishes with age. Sometimes, sexual satisfaction one gets after marriage relieves the problem.

The patients of hysteria should take nutritious food, milk, clarified butter rice, grape juice, apples, pomegranate, oranges etc.

Hysteria is mental disease, it should, therefore, be treated at the psychological level. Neglect in proper treatment can be fatal at a later stage.

Lemon : Take lemon, salt, cumin seeds, roasted asafoetida  and mint leaves in warm water at least for a month.

Pomegranate : Boil 15 gms. each of pomegranate leaves and fresh rose petals in ½ litre of water. When it is reduced to one – fourth quantity strain it and add 20 gms. clarified butter.

Taking it regularly is beneficial for patients of hysteria.

Milk : Take fresh unboiled milk with sugar candy or honey and 10 raisins soaked in water daily in the morning for 40 days. It will be beneficial.

Onion : Making women patients of hysteria smell onion juice on fainting bring them back to consciousness.

Garlic : A few drops of garlic juice put in the nostrils brings the patient back to consciousness.

Asafoetida : Making the patient smell asafoetida brings him back to consciousness.

Red chilli : There is a homeopathic  medicine made from red chillies known as Capsicum Annum. A few drops in the nostrils of the patients bring him back to consciousness.
