ENERGIZING THE MEMORY

Memory- power does not increase with medicines— In the universe of commerce, medicines to enhance the memory- power, are sold on the basis of advertisements. In fact, these medicines do little good. Most of such medicines contain more than 50% sugar syrup and the contents are also not pure. Repeated advertisements and publicity create a psychological effect on the minds of the people. The people are advised to beware of such medicines and avoid their use. If these medicines could improve the memory- power, all the rich people would become vigorous and would have a dominating memory.

Memory- power can be improved only through concentration, revision of the matter stored in the mind and by remaining healthy and following laws of nature.

From health point of view the reasons for a weak memory are physical and mental debility, indulgence in unnatural sexual activity, fickleness and lewdness. The following items for treatment through food are beneficial:

Apple: Apples energize the memory. Persons with a weaken brain and sinews and student who do not have a retentive memory should eat one or two un- peeled apples by chewing them thoroughly daily 15 minutes before meals.

Amla: (1) Eating preserved amla daily in the morning, energizes the memory.

(2) Take green amla juice mixed in 30 ml. of water when you are half way through your meals. Take the remaining food then. It should be taken 21 days. It will provide strength to the heart and mind and improve physical health.

Eating coconut, lychee and pistachio also improves mental powers.

Carrots: Eat seven almonds daily in the morning followed by 125 ml. of carrot juice mixed with 500 ml. It will be beneficial.

Wheat: The juice of wheat grass energizes the memory.

Clarified butter: Massaging the head with clarified butter invigorates the memory.

Almonds: Soak ten almonds overnight. Peel them in the morning and eat them with 12 gms. of butter and sugar candy. It will strengthen brain. If it is not possible to do so, grind 7 almonds and 10 gms. each of sugar candy aniseed and take it with hot milk at night. Take it for 40 days. It invigorates the brain and memory. If it is not possible to do that also, grind finely 10 almonds and mix in 500 ml. of milk and heat it to three boils, allow it to cool down, mix sugar and drink it or grind almonds and aniseed in equal quantity. Take a tsp. with cool water before bedtime. It will invigorate the memory and provide strength.

Aniseed: Pound aniseed lightly, remove its husk and sieve. Take a tsp. of it each in the morning and evening with cool water or hot milk. It invigorates the memory and keeps the mind cool.

Black Pepper: Take 8 corns of black pepper with 30 gms. of butter and sugar daily. It energizes the memory and keeps the mind cool. It also provides physical strength.

Basil: Prepare thandai with the following ingredients : 10 basil leaves, five corns of black pepper,five almonds, a little honey and water. Drinking it invigorates the memory.

Gulkand: Take it thrice daily. It will energize the memory.

Mango: Mix a cup of mango juice,¼ cup of milk a tsp. of ginger juice, and sugar to taste and drink it daily. It provides strength to the brain and cures chronic headache due to debilitated brain. It keeps the body healthy.

Black gram: Soak overnight 30 gms. of black gram daal. Grind it in the morning into a paste, mix it with milk and sugar and drink it. It is beneficial for the brain.

Sesame seeds: It contains protein. The brain is made of lasithene and it is found in sesame in plenty. Prepare laddoos with sesame and jiggery in equal quantity. Take a laddoo each in the morning and evening followed by milk. It provides energy and removes mental debility and tension.

Walnut: Walnut is shaped like the brain. Eating walnuts invigorates the brain.

Coriander : Grind 125 gms. coriander seeds and boil in½ litre of water. When the water is reduced to one- fourth, strain it and add 125 gms. of sugar candy and hear it. When it becomes thick remove it from the stove. Lick 10 gms. of it daily. It is beneficial in mental debility.
