DISEASES CAUSED BY THE DEFICIENCY OF VITAMIN C
Paleness of face, debility, body ache, swollen gums, bleeding gums, loose teeth, foul breath, bleeding from skin and phlegmatic sources are the diseases caused by the deficiency of vitamin C.           Sources of Vitamin C : It is found in abundance in oranges, lime, mausambi and other juicy fruits. It is also found in chaulai, cabbage, small carrots, onions, tomatoes, radish, coriander leaves, spinach, beet root, pears, berries, pineapple and guava. Amla is full of vitamin C. it does not lose the vitamin even after it has been cooked. Amla enhances the formation of semen and destroys ‘pitta’ in blood. Dried amla powder sieved through muslin cloth taken daily (3gms.) with honey for four months can bring about a transformation in the body (kayakalpa). It sharpens the appetite, induces good sleep, gives a boost to mental powers, strengthens the heart, makes hair black, splendid and cures headaches. Sometimes it works better than powerful patent medicines. Take 6 tablets made out of amla powder, thrice a day. (refer the chapter on amla in the present auther’s book entitled ‘Bhojan ke Dwara chikitsa’). The green vegetables mentioned above can be taken raw or you may take them in the form of juice; they will enhance your longevity and you will retain the vigour of a your man even in old age.
          Vitamin A : If your eyesight has gone weak, you cannot see clearly in the dark or suffer from night blindness; if the eyes suffer from dryness, irritation or a burning sensation, they cannot stand light, have lost luster, have developed cataract in old age, the eyesight has become dim; if stones are frequently formed in the kidney and teeth becomes loose, the symptoms indicate that there is a deficiency o vitamin A. you can get rid of these symptoms by consuming fresh green chaulai, acabbage, coriander leaves, green mint leaves, fenugreek leaves, spinach, carrots, papaya, mangoes and home made fresh butter. The vegetables and fruits can be consumed raw or in the form of chutney or you could have them by way of juice. If taken for three to four months, they will help in curing the above mentioned diseases.
