(DYS = HARD, PEPSIN = DIGEST)
Weakness of digestion or indigestion leads to pain in the parts related to digestive system and there is flatulene which causes heaviness, restlessness, nausea and vomiting. Loss of appetite, indigestion, feeling of surfeit and stomach derangement all mean that the food eaten is not being digested. The diarrhea caused by dyspepsia is known as sprue.
Lemon : (1) Cut a slice of a lemon, heat it, sprinkle salt on it and suck on it to get relief from indigestion. It will improve the digestive system. Lemon is useful in all ailments of the liver.
(2) Take half glass of lemon water with sugar daily in case of loss of appetite, indigestion and sour burps.
(3) Squeeze a lemon in a glass of water, add salt and a tsp. of ginger juice to it and drink it.
Guava: It is a good medicine for dyspepsia, loss of appetite and flatulence. The patient should eat 250 gms. Of guava fruit after meals. Others should eat it before meals.
Cauliflower : Taking mixed juice of cauliflower and carrots in equal quantity is beneficial in joint pains, dyspepsia and weakness of eyesight.
Bathua : Take it as a cooked vegetable or drink its juice. It cures all sorts of ailments of the stomach, liver, spleen, indigestion, flatulence, worms, piles and stones.
Curd : Eating curd regularly with roasted cumin seeds, salt and black pepper cures dyspepsia and improves digestion.
Cloves : Grind tow cloves and put in half cup of boiling water, let it cool a little, then drink it. Take it thrice a day. It provides relief from dyspepsia.
Asafetida (1) Grind asafetida, small harad, rock slat, caraway seeds in equal quantity. Take a spoonful thrice daily with hot water. It will cure dyspepsia.
(2) Ten drops of homeopathic mother tincuture of asafetida mixed in a tsp. of water cures dyspepsia.
Cumin Seeds : (1) Mix cumin seeds, dried ginger powder, rock salt, long pepper, black pepper in equal quantity and grind. Take a spoonful after meals with water. It facilitates digestion of the food.
(2) Boil 2 tsp. cumin seeds in a glass of water, when it cools down, strain it and take ½ cup thrice a day.
(3) Mix a tsp. of roasted cumin seeds powder with a tsp. of honey and eat it twice daily after meals. It cures dyspepsia.
Coriander : If it is difficult to digest food and you have the urge to pass stools immediately after meals, take 60 gms  of dry coriander powder, 25 gms. Black pepper, 5gms. Of salt, mix and grind them. Take ½ tsp. of the powder after meals daily.
Caraway seeds : (1) Grind caraway seeds and small harad and mix asafetida and salt to taste. Take a tsp. of the powder after meals with hot water.
(2) Taking a tsp. of ground caraway seeds mixed with rock salt to taste with water on empty stomach in the morning is beneficial.
Neem : Grind 25 gms of dry neem leaves, three cloves, three black pepper and mix a little water and sugar. Eat it twice daily in the morning and evening.
Water : If you suffer from dyspepsia and it is difficult to digest food, don’t eat anything for a day, take only water. If you suffer from constipation, keep sipping water with meals. Take a glass of water in the morning as soon as you get up.
Radish : The patients of dyspepsia should eat radish with salt and black pepper powder daily for two months.
Pineapple : Eating a slice of pineapple with salt and black salt and black pepper powder daily for two months.
Papaya : If you cannot digest food, it would be better to eat papaya. If you suffer from loss of appetite, dyspepsia, indigestion, stomachache and sour burps, eat papaya continuously in breakfast in the morning for twenty days.
Carrots : if you cannot digest clarified butter, oil or oily things, take 310 gms carrot juice mixed with 185 ml. of spinach juice.
Carrots : Cut an onion into pieces, squeeze a lemon on it and eat it with meals. It will provide relief from indigestion. If the patient is a child, give him five drops of onion juice. It will be beneficial.
Butter milk: if the indigestion is because of clarified butter oil or groundnuts, taking butter milk will be beneficial.
Mustard: To cure indigestion take 3 gms of mustard seeds powder in water.
Salt : (1) To cure indigestive system is not working properly, even eating light meals causes diarrhea, dysentery or constipation and the body becomes weak, take 5 gsm of black salt dissolved in hot water. Children should take it once in a mouth or two. Mix one part of rock salt and four parts of desi sugar and grind. Taking ½ tsp. of it with water ten minutes after meals will cure indigestion and loss of appetite.
(2) Some people suffer from the problem of sour burps after meals. Acids come upto the throat. All the symptoms of indigestion appear. In such cases, giving up salt altogether or taking very little of it provides relief from indigestion. The reason is that there is already a lot of hydrochloric acid, which is sour, in the digestive juices of the stomach. This acid is generated by salt. If you don’t take slat, the excessive acids in the stomach are reduced to the normal level and you get quite a bit of relief from stomach related problems.
Ginger : (1) Mix ginger juice with lemon juice and rock salt and take it twice, before meals and after meals. It will provide relief from indigestion. It will improve digestion.
(2) Mix ½ tsp of dried ginger powder with a little jaggery and take it after meals for a few days. It sharpens the appetite, tones up the digestive system and cures stomach ailments.
(3) Eating a guava fruit with dried ginger powder helps in the digestion of food and improves the appetite. Take it atleast for ten days regularly.
Basil : Chewing basil leaves with black pepper provides relief from indigestion and loss of appetite.
Coffee : Taking coffee after meals makes you feel cheerful and light as if you had not eaten anything, strong coffee provides agility and relief from stomachache after meals or indigestion caused by opium eating.
Red chilli : 5 drops of the homeopathic mother tincture capsicum Anum made of red chilli taken in a tsp. of water before meals also cures dyspepsia.
Cinnamon : Frequent eating of a little bit of cinnamon, dried ginger and cardamom provides relief from indigestion.
